The Manager, Tax Accounting & Compliance is responsible for managing the bank’s tax affairs, ensuring accurate tax computation, timely filing of returns, and full compliance with TRA and applicable tax laws. The role provides tax planning advisory, manages tax audits, ensures proper tax accounting, and mitigates tax risks. The incumbent also supports financial reporting through accurate tax disclosures and compliance monitoring.
Responsibilities
Tax Compliance Management
• Prepare, review, and submit all tax returns (corporate tax, VAT, WHT, excise, PAYE, SDL, stamp duty, etc.).
• Ensure timely payment of taxes and adherence to statutory deadlines.
• Maintain complete and accurate tax documentation for audit trails.
Tax Accounting & Reporting
• Compute tax provisions and deferred tax in accordance with IFRS.
• Prepare tax notes for financial statements.
• Reconcile tax ledgers and resolve outstanding items.
• Ensure correct tax treatment of transactions across the bank.
Tax Planning & Advisory
• Advise management on tax-efficient strategies and emerging tax legislation.
• Assess tax implications of new products, contracts, and transactions.
• Optimise tax positions while ensuring compliance.
Tax Audit Management
• Lead TRA audits, queries, and tax investigations.
• Prepare supporting schedules and documentation required for audits.
• Implement corrective actions arising from tax audit findings.
Controls & Risk Management
• Strengthen tax governance, internal controls, and documentation standards.
• Identify tax risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Monitor compliance with internal policies and regulatory frameworks.
Process Improvement
• Enhance tax compliance workflows and digital reporting.
• Implement automation tools to improve accuracy and turnaround time.
• Maintain tax calendars and dashboards for management monitoring.
Collaboration & Communication
• Work with finance, procurement, HR, and business units to ensure correct tax application.
• Provide training on tax obligations and compliance requirements.
• Liaise with TRA, external tax advisors, and auditors.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Requirements
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related field.
• CPA/ACCA required; specialized tax training is an added advantage.
Experience:
• 3–5 years’ experience in tax accounting and compliance.
• Experience in banking or large corporate tax environments preferred.
Technical Skills:
• Strong knowledge of TRA laws, tax regulations, and IFRS tax requirements.
• Proficiency in tax computation, reconciliations, and tax planning.
• Strong analytical and documentation skills.
Soft Skills:
• High integrity and confidentiality.
• Strong communication and advisory skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
