The Legal Officer will be responsible for providing legal advice, support, and services to the organization, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. This role involves reviewing legal documents, handling legal disputes, managing legal risks, and supporting the organization’s corporate and operational objectives. The Legal Officer will work closely with various departments to ensure legal interests are protected and any potential risks are mitigated.


Responsibilities

Legal Advisory:

  • Provide legal advice and guidance on various legal issues including contracts, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, employment, and corporate matters.
  • Ensure the organization’s legal interests are protected in its transactions and operations.
  • Advise management on changes in legislation or regulatory requirements that may affect the business.


Contracts & Documentation:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal agreements including vendor contracts, service agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and lease agreements.
  • Ensure that all contracts are in compliance with applicable laws and protect the organization’s interests.
  • Maintain an organized system for legal document management and retrieval.


Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Ensure the company complies with relevant laws and regulations, including corporate, labour, intellectual property, and industry-specific regulations.
  • Identify and assess legal risks, and work to minimize potential exposure to litigation or penalties.
  • Develop and implement internal compliance policies and procedures, and provide training where necessary.


Litigation Management:

  • Assist in managing disputes, litigation, or arbitration cases involving the company.
  • Liaise with external legal counsel on ongoing cases and ensure timely and effective resolution.
  • Prepare and organize legal documents required for court filings and other legal proceedings.


Legal Research:

  • Conduct legal research on various legal issues affecting the organization, keeping abreast of relevant laws, regulations, and court decisions.
  • Analyse legal trends and make recommendations to management on how to address emerging legal issues.


Corporate Governance:

  • Support the company in maintaining good corporate governance practices.
  • Assist with the preparation and filing of corporate documents with relevant regulatory authorities.
  • Ensure that board meetings and corporate records comply with statutory requirements.


Stakeholder Communication:

  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders on legal matters, providing clear and actionable advice.
  • Coordinate with external legal advisors, government authorities, and regulatory bodies as required.


Requirements

Experience Required:

  • 3-5 years of post-qualification legal experience, ideally in corporate, commercial, or regulatory law.
  • Experience working in a corporate environment or law firm handling corporate matters is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the legal aspects of business operations, including contracts, risk management, and compliance.
